TVersity Media Server 1.5 is a media server/transcoder for Windows. This is one of my Top 100 applications. It is beautifully designed and is perhaps the most powerful solution for sharing media among several devices. When installed, TVersity Media Server creates a sharing service on your computer. It broadcasts a uPNP signal that can be found by any uPNP-enabled devices. So, after you share a folder, nearly all the devices on your network will be able to play those files, even if they don't support them natively. For example, the XBOX 360/PS3/WII don't really support certain file formats. Well, you can configure TVersity Media Server to transcode those files automatically for those devices. All other devices that don't support uPNP device discovery can simply access the web interface and still play the files shared by TVersity. TVersity can share videos, music and photos. It supports most common formats. It is a relief that it supports MKV, MOV, MP4, MPEG, XVID, DIVX and WMV files for video. Most of the time, TVersity works great. There are times when the server fails to appear and a simple restart will solve the problem. Sometimes it is hard to get the server to show up on some devices at all. Some troubleshooting will fix the problem. Make sure you install all the codecs that are required and that your server and the devices are in the same network.
